November 2009
At the 2009 Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith
Rice International competition, one of my images received a
HIGHLY HONORED mention in the category Oceans. The photo shows a beluga whale and was taken in
the White Sea, Russia. Tens
of thousands of entries have been submitted and selected in 19
categories including Grand Prize, Conservation
Photographer of the Year and Youth Photographer of the Year. The
Winner' images of each category and 20 of the Highly Honored images
will be displayed at the Smithsonian National
Museum of Natural History located in Washington, DC. the most-visited
museum in
the world, that is also free to the public.
The gallery will show 40 images in large-format prints, with captions telling the stories behind the
shots. The prestigious photo exhibition will be located in the
Special Exhibit Hall on the museum's second floor and will last from November
12th 2009 until May 2nd 2010.
Launched in 1996 at the Washington DC National Zoo, the Nature's Best
Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards has now become a
multi-year exhibition program at the Smithsonian National Museum of
Natural History. The program has grown to become a very popular annual
exhibition where enlarged photographic prints ranging in size from
2-foot by 3-foot to 4-foot by 6-foot are on view for at least six
months. The exhibitions are located in the Special Exhibit Hall on the
museum's second floor.
